    Rob Ski,

I really enjoyed your video series on this rifle. I’m new to the AK weapons platform and had picked up a VSKA on a impromptu visit to my local gun shop as my entry into the world of AK. It’s good to know that my impulse purchase has the potential of not being a complete disaster.

Just wondering, I saw you taking the temperature of the barrel during your testing to make sure that it didn’t get too hot. Normally, my rule is that if the barrel gets hot to the point where it is uncomfortable to hold, stop shooting until it is. At the range this weekend, I sent one 30 round magazine down range over the course of 4 minutes. The heat coming off the barrel was impressive and using good operational risk management I decided not to chance touching it. What in your opinion with the AK platform is the temperature range that a shooter should start getting concerned if they do not want to damage the rifle?

    Thanks in advance.

I will tell you that usually after 3-4 mag dumps, you will be unable to touch that barrel without getting burned. When shooting for fun, i would try to keep mag dumps to minimum…in your case, 30rds down the range in 4 minutes – that’s plenty of time between shots to keep going man.

At 9:10 is that a crack in the stock behind the screw?

No, that’s just the lighting in the picture.

    Hi Rob,

I’ve been watching your videos for some time and I was very impressed with the selected AK’s that you’ve displayed that made it pass 5K video, which helped me purchased my first AK which was the VSKA (next AK purchase will be a WASR). I seen another one of your videos you did about the budget AK’s and you show 5 of them, but i noticed that you didn’t do any modifications to the VSKA. My question is, is it worth the money to invest mods to the VSKA? or should i wait until i purchase a WASR to do mods?
